Ouch, just had my latest manuscript for Shadows of the Evening rejected as not being a 'commercial proposition' (cue weighty thud on the doormat). At least I got this one back again, the last one never made it home...
Remind me again why we do this?
Cheers

Sorry to hear it, JMac. Couldn't resist having a look at your opening chapter and it made me laugh out loud!
Ever thought of trying it as a script?
Meanwhile, keep sending it out there!

Thanks Susie, glad you liked it. You wouldn't think a little bit of light humour would be such commercial suicide would you, but that's life . Funnily enough, I did think about trying it as a script, but at the time I'd written half the book so I thought I'd soldier on and finish it. Maybe I'll have a go.

Susie, just been reading 'The Change' - I'd love to read the whole thing, there's some really good writing there. Is this the one you've sent out?

I could see (er, hear) it on Radio 4 as a comedy crime serial. Why not? You could send it in via the BBC Writing Room thingy.
Glad you liked The Change, and yes, it's what I'm sending in. Except that that first section has now been drastically cut!
Best of luck with submissions,
Susiex

Could you not pitch your work in the Christopher Brookmyer territory or Carl Hiassen as off-beat murder mysteries?
I only had a scan through your posted work, so I could be completely wrong, but that's what it appears to be like.

Hi Sibelius
Yes it's that sort of thing. I'm having trouble working out who to pitch it to at the moment - a couple of crime publishers said they liked the story but not the style (i.e. they wanted a more serious, 'straight' book), while others have said they like the style but not the story. Can't win sometimes...
Cheers
