Daily Mail First Novel Competition  Michael Scott at 07:53 on 12 July 2008

Does anybody know anything about this? They ran it in 2007 and again in 2008. It was supposed to close on July 2nd but it's still on the Daily Mail's site. with 0 comments!

I would have expected this forum to be rife with chat!

Yes, it is running and it did close on 2nd July. I entered it, along with another friend, and got my acknowledgement pc back. Last year they got over 8,000 entries, and although there was no entry fee, they wanted the whole manuscript - lots of printing! I think they announce the six shortlisted novels in the autumn.

There was a lot of chat beforehand, with people asking questions etc.

Thanks,
Seems a strange way to run a competition!
Even if they used ten judges, How many of those 8000 could they actually read in 3 months? What a waste of paper!

Yes, sadly I suspect that many won't be 'read' beyond the first few pages. I only hope they recycle all the manuscripts.

Do you know about the sacred script competition, personally I think a non-american can win it. A $1.2 million dollar grant is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

No, never heard of that. Will google!
