Is anyone entering the Bridport comp this year?

  Re: Bridport  Gillian75 at 10:49 on 23 June 2009

I sent in an entry! It's an historical story, set in an old house. A little like Jane Austen meets Emily Bronte. Not really what I write, but I decided to give it a go anyway! Nothing to lose

I sent a quirky little post-modernist piece written in the present tense addressing the (female) protagonist's lover as "you".

Good luck to everyone!

Yes all the best everyone - I am still working on my piece and hope to submit it online on Monday 29th - cutting it fine.

Beverley, their site says that they get pretty clogged up close to the deadline, so don't leave it too late. Ali Smith is waiting for your story.

Ooo thanks for the tip Rainstop - will try to get it finished in the next day or so.

Cheers - Bev

Someone invited me to a "critical lunch" next week and one of the critters has circulated the story she plans to submit to the Brid. I could delay on feedback to hamper the competition. One less rival among grazillions. I've now submitted five. Might just as well have emailed them to myself.

I am only writing this to check that my internet connection has been sorted out by that charming Geordie guy.

Yes, they get 1500 or so in the last week, and that was in 2004. With the best will in the world to do so, they admit it's hard to be sure they do the latest arrivals justice.

Have you all written to the maximum 5000 words - I am a bit short at 4500?

Bev

Short doesn't matter at all - let the story be what it wants to be. Just not too long.

One of those I've sent is about 800 words. I can't imagine it winning. Definitely wouldn't worry about a few hundred words underweight.

Oh okay - think I might have two up my sleeve then.

Cheers.
