Just got this from the End of Story people...

    -------------------
    Hello End of Story fan,

End of Story was a huge success (even if we do say so ourselves). 17,000 of you
put pen to paper and wrote the final half of a short story. This year we're
laying down a new gauntlet; finish a sitcom and see if you can have the last
    laugh.

8 writers have written the first 20 minutes of original sitcoms, all you have to
do is write the final 10 minutes.

The competition launches on Saturday March 19th with a 1 hour programme going
out on BBC Three at 9pm.
    -------------------

    sounds great!

I don't know. I've always felt that the best sitcoms are plot driven, rather than joke driven. I wonder who the writers will include. Here's hoping it's Simon Nye, Steven Moffat and John Cleese.

    The writers are:

Marks & Gran - Birds of a Feather, The New Statesman
Paul Mayhew Archer - My Hero, The Vicar of Dibley
Bain & Armstrong - Peep Show
    Carla Lane - Bread, Butterflies
Jonathan Harvey - Gimme Gimme Gimme
    Trix Worrell - Desmonds, Porkpie
Ian Pattison - Rab C Nesbitt
Brown & Hendrie - My Family

I was pleased to see that the BBC would be accepting entrees from teams, though I'm a hugley disappointed that the BBC consider a 'team' to consist of no more than two writers, given that in the USA team writing has been hugely successful with sitcoms, and we're talking teams of a dozen people in some cases. I'm currently writing a sitcom as one of a team of five, and the way that ideas develop is amazing in comparison to going it alone.

Carla Lane? That's an easy one to finish. Just make sure the final scene shows the housewife is undervalued, taken for granted and has hopes and dreams she can't achieve.

    Blearrrghh!
