If anyone fancies a superlative dark fantasy novel, then you might enjoy this one. It has echoes of China Mieville and His Dark Materials, but also presents itself in an original and fascinating fashion.

The story revolves around the City of Deepgate, an archaic, theocratic metropolis suspended on chains over a massive and seemingly bottomless abyss. The main character is the last of a race of angels, protected by a somewhat acerbic female assassin, and their friendship takes them deep into the abyss on a daring quest to save their city...

There are some stunning scenes, and a lot of action. Parts of the novel are simply breathtaking. I'm definitely looking forward to the next installment.

I absolutely love your description of the city.

Thanks. Campbell's descriptions really bring the city to life. In fact, the city is the star. A very bizarre but believable creation.
