Nell et al, what about the week-end of 23rd August? There's a bank hol on the monday, and it's three weeks away, enough time to organise ourselves and choose a meeting place.

Nell - oh, my god, you do know it! It's the red-brick one with strange shaped windows just up from the casino (nightmare party wall scenario!)

OK, so I was a young naive engineer then, so I didn't have much to do with the appearance (that was the choice of a rather tasty architect from Leeds) but I designed the heating, lighting, air conditioning...

If a meet in Brighton is going to happen, then I'm game - it's a bugger of a long way from Bath, but it would be fun to go back and see the place. I'm guessing it's changed since I was last there...

Becca, David did suggest leaving the meetup until the town is less busy, also maybe looking for an event we could go to. I could manage August 23rd OK though - what does everyone else think?

Steph, as a mature art student I once photographed those strange windows from across the street, capturing weird distorted reflections of the traffic as well as myself!

I'd love to come but I lead such a miserable existence that I'd only bring the party down. I'm going thru one of my call your/myself a writer type phases (is that how you spell it Steph?) Everything's as dull as ditchwater and nothing seems worth it anymore. I've just read that rejection thing that someones just posted and that's made me feel even worse.
I remember reading an obituary that was written by the wife of the dead (writer) man,it was a major rant aimed at all the publishers, agents etc that had ever rejected him. She almost accused them of murder. Quite right too. Mmm.It always springs into my mind when I feel like this...anyway Brighton eh? Where's that then? It'll probably rain.
What is it they say...Life's a bitch and then you're dead. Huh. Know what they mean.
Let's see if I can squeeze one out...here goes...

downside of bank holiday weekend is that probably hotels etc will be fairly full although we could all sleep under the PALACE PIER
in principle I am OK for it however.

Nell as you live in Brighton you may just have volunteered to organise it think ice hockey wrestling hot dogs and candy floss and a 5 shilling flutter in the Pop In

anywya folks Ill go with the flow

I'm too old for under the Pier - I'm not sure that 's sounds quite how I meant it. I must just join in to play . It is Friday night and I can't think of anything serious to say about Literary versus non-literary except that it is clear that there are multiple definitions of the distinction. So, I guess, when it looks like it is going to matter ask, very graciously, for the person to define what they mean by literary.

Very distracting, enjoyable forum. Becca, I hope your American friend gives us a good definition after all this effort. (++) Hilary tutt, tut! the underlining doesn't work, I have trying the home-made version.

Well, it looks as though I shall have to come with something entertaining - will investigate and let you all know. And Tweed - do come. (:

Well now, I would be v. depressed if you don't come Tweed, so you've got to.
I'm up for it. And, Olebut/David how about we search out a really really plastic flower spooooky B&B, a seriously mentally sordid one, and kip in that? Breakfast in places like that are a real trip. We've got 3 weeks, and if we know how many people need a place to stay, we can do this. Steph, excited that you're coming from Bath.
We'd have to syncronise journeys so we ended up in Brighton about the same time, and a bar or something to meet in that didn't have two many rooms so we could easily find each other without knowing at all who anyone else was. Was that a yes or a no Hilary?

Has anyone read the latest chapter of WW member Mika Smith's novel The Roar? It's called Dead Man's Diner, and it's about a restaurant on the cliff above Brighton beach sometime in the future. Pity we can't meet there.

In the meantime I'll do a little investigating and get back to you. Kemp Town is full of those B&Bs you mentioned Becca, but won't they all be full up on a Bank Holiday weekend? Still, I suppose you could all sleep in my garden...

Why not? A year ago I was a regular visitor and had easy access to accommodation, but the daughter has flown and I think ex boyfriend's floor is probably not a good idea. Happy to B and B or camp. If husband decides to come (probably not, but he might have work there and he is ex-Sussex), we will Hotel it. Hope you have a code name for this project. I can offer a lift from the Cambridge area. Cheers, Hilary
