Ten Mistakes Writers Don`t See (But Can Easily Fix When They Do)  david bruce at 20:09 on 22 January 2004

A nice article I came across today:

I've saved it to 'favourites' David!

Me too. Thanks David. It had me running to my mss and casting a beady eye over them...

From beady-eyed to sleepy-eyed...

G'night!

Nice one David

Thanks for this, David. It's now added to my growing folder of Techniques and Tips.

Good stuff but I 've realised evertime I put finger-pen to keyboard-paper, I make one. Is it serious, doctor?

An Excellent Lesson. What I liked was that these 'errors' are seen in the writings of established and respected writers, so there is always room for improvement for us all.

Thank you, David.

Thanks David, realy useful stuff. Johns idea of keeping a folder of tips and techniques sounds like a neat idea too. Must start one now!

On another note anyone know what happened to the smilies posting. It was there, then it just displayed 'error' and now it’s gone altogether. Revenge of the smilies? Always thought they were tricksome creatures.

The smilies thread was getting a bit ... heated. I suspect it was removed because some comments were getting rather personal, patronising and inappropriate.

Who would have thought a thread about smilies would be so contraversial!

That's easily the most useful top ten list I've seen. And if anyone's keen to see what their overused 'crutch' word is, there's a web page at http://www.georgetown.edu/faculty/ballc/webtools/web_freqs.html where you can paste in your text and have a frequency analysis returned.

what would we do without The Bruce?

Re: Ten Mistakes Writers Don`t See (But Can Easily Fix When They Do)  KnoxOverstreet at 15:24 on 28 January 2004

Oops. Sorry David. I of course rescind my previous comment and direct all would-be word counters back to this site.

How would I find that by browsing (just wondering what else I might have missed)?

Good question, Julian. I didn't know we could do that. This site gets better and better. Wonderwhat else we could play with if only we knew about it?

Dee

sorry, couldn't resist a quickie!

How fantastic. Actually, maybe it's not...I'll have to see what happens first when I try it. I did re-re-re-read something the other day and realised that my characters seemed to be constantly sighing!
