Looking for expressions

I have a student who is very, very slow and during a long pause in our lesson today, I was trying to think of those expressions like:
He's not the brightest button in the tin or
He's not the sharpest pencil in the pack/box (?)
Does anyone know any more along those lines?
Elspeth
(yes, i know, i'm a mean, nasty teacher!)

He's not the sharpest knife in the box.
Elspeth, so long as you're nice to his face.... ;-)

One box short of a pallet. (as we say where I work)
One bob short of a pound. (bob = shilling = 5p)
The wheel is turning but the hamster is dead.
If his brains were dynamite they wouldn’t blow his hat off.
Imagine what the other thirty-five million sperm were like.
Elspeth! Stop it!!!

And not forgetting...
One sandwich short of a picnic
One brick short of a load

Is this a writing exercise? Am I missing something?
I didn't get the dyspraxia comment either. Actually, statistically, one child in every class does have dyspraxia, which does slow down reactions, etc.

The lights are on but nobody's home.
If he had a brain he'd be dangerous.
He's not above half. (from half-sharp)
And to quote Hank Hill - "That boy ain't right".
