Having looked at Lavelle's posting profile, I think he's a troll. Ignore him is my suggestion.

'Scuse the badly worded last sentence.

Yes, I agree. I've never seen this person post before.

I think it's someone called Lavelle Heath.

Ooh Zettel, you fancy yourself. That translates as: you are way too hard working and enthusiastic about what you do to make me feel at ease. Let me belittle you in public.

Thank goodness you are too robust to care.

I am in awe of Zettel's indefatigable dedication to the art of reviewing, and his hugely creative approach.

    More power to you, Zet.

For me this thread is not horrible or bizarre. It's actually Australian Sense of Humour. So I'm laughing aloud.

Well, WW Mates, you don't have to disagree with me. I'm not supporting any of them. But I must say when such thread born, the creator and the receiver should participate in the arguments, and tell us whose posts have more logic, and who win in the end. If you remain silence you'll regarded as a loser. And I admire your courage, Lavelle, to make such thread in public.

    Lets See who win:

    Lavelle Vs Zettel

And the trophy of the best philosophy goes to --> ??????

    Clap, Clap, Clap ....

Well, Mox, you're on your own with Lavelle there.

Zettel, take no notice of this moronic comment which says a great deal more about its originator's state of mind than it does about your reviews. It is totally untypical of WriteWords which is one of the reasons why we members value this site so highly.

It's in the nature of a review that it's one person's take on the subject so we'll never all agree on the verdict. I often find your analysis spot-on and , even when I take a different view, I know I will find observations in the always well-written text that are worth reading and food for thought.

    Keep posting the reviews!

    Chris

Mox - I can only think you've misinterpreted the comments from Lavelle.

The Australian Sense of Humour is not based on pure spite. There was no fun in Lavelle's comments - no humour - just pure vitriol.

In this case the adage applies: if you can't say something nice, don't say it at all.

I think you all have misinterpreted my comments. I openly said I'm not supporting anyone. why would I do that? Zettel is member here, and Lavelle is member too. Supporting anyone would be called partiality because we all here to help each other and clear the misconception if anybody has.

If Lavelle is not happy with Zettel reviews then you should have tried to know the reasons from him, just like critiques are done on someone's work. Or Zettel should have asked the reasons but only he thought( perhaps disappointed or in rage) to post this: "Just to make something clear: your note has nothing to do with my already formed decision to change my MIGP review."

It's actually an invitation to carry on the next arguments, and indeed it happened: My "note" has everything to do with that review. Hmm. Let me refashion that sentence: My "note" has everything to do with that "review".

I can only say don't remain silence, don't show you're weak. And never ever expect to see nice critiques or gentle notes, be ready to reply them.

Sharley, I haven't misinterpreted his comments. As far as the sense of humour is concern I explain his critiques in detail:

    Dear Zettel

    A gentle address.

What have we done to deserve you?

A question, but behind there is an intention.

You've decided you are a fine reviewer. You've chosen this website to be your blow-up doll.

    This is funny.

I speak only for myself when I express this opinion: your reviews and your writing ability are pretty shit.

An opinion which is not nice, but it came from his heart. But a question arises : Does Lavelle knows Zettel in person, maybe not. Then why he said that, but of course he he's been reading his reviews for five months, and noticed a fact -- only a few comments beneath his reviews.

So I dare to say, actually we all have given him this chance to make such opening remark which you think is unpleasant. After his critiques members sprung up to say a nice note in favour of Our Zettel, just to console him. If we would have critiqued on his reviews, Lavelle wouldn't have made this thread to express what he feels bout his ability.

    Thank you for listening.

A polite note after insulting him. So overall it's a funny piece. Also the sense of humour depends upon the age, you know it well.

Mox I'm sorry but you are way wide of the mark here.

"You've chosen this website to be your blow-up doll" is not funny. It's equating posting intelligent, thoughtful reviews to enacting pornographic fantasies on a piece of unprotesting plastic. Do you really think that's an amusing or appropriate comparison to make?

As for the "pretty shit" remark - honestly, how would you feel if someone critiqued your writing in that way? Do you truly think that's an appropriate way to respond to someone who's posted up a piece of work for others to look at?

I actually think David should pull this thread because I would hate for any new member to stumble on it and think "well, I'd better not post my work here because this might be what I get back."

Writewords is - thank god - better than this.

    Florapost,

Sorry, I'd like to say "blow-up doll" is actually sex related stuff. And saying such thing is offensive in public when most readers are women. But I'd like to tell you the fact men always laugh on such slang.

And "Pretty Shit" is not nice I've already said. It's an insult, and anybody feels hurt when they expect some gentle critiques on their writing, because writing is very difficult job everybody knows.

Zettel, I can only say 'be brave and you're a writer.'

Mox I'm fully aware that men laugh at jokes about blowup dolls - god I might even find one funny myself in the pub or in the right context.

But NOT in the context of gratuitously insulting someone's work on a website.

    Fine - argue a point.

    Fine - critique someone's work.

But I'm struggling to find the OP anything other than plain rude.

I'd like to thank everyone who has taken the trouble to comment on this thread. Mostly because to reject abusive personal comments is to stand up for what this site is all about which is people trying to write better and help other people to write better as well.

I would hate to have everyone agree with my reviews which are by the nature of things at heart personal judgement supported by argument. There are many examples of quite passionate disagreement in the past and I have relished being forced to argue my case better and further. As a philosopher (by qualification) that is a precious gift to me by others.

I remain willing to support my judgements and arguments but I do need an argument to respond to: All I was offered was:

    One question (rhetorical)
    Three assertions
    And one statement

I do of course reserve the right to end engagement in pointless arguments: and to ignore abusive ones.

Happy New Year to everyone - including Lavelle (even you are[/i} Australian.

That is a joke - I have very good Australian friends.

    Z [:-)

Good for you, Zettel! Keep 'em coming! Will you be watching 'proper' Sherlock tonight? Cumberbatch, I mean!
